Major (Hon) Ann McCarty is a true Floridian, having spent most of her life in Winter Haven. She graduated from Winter Haven High School and then attended and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Florida Southern College with Education Certification from the University South Florida, and post graduate class work at the University of Florida.

Major (Hon) McCarty has taught in Polk County, Florida for more than twenty five years; her experience includes classroom teaching, athletic director and in-service trainer; this is her fifth year at Summerlin Academy. She currently teaches Earth Space, Biology, and Forensic Science. She is the director and founder of the etiquette program Sophomore Dining Out at Summerlin Academy.

Major (Hon) McCarty was the Bartow High School, International Baccalaureate and Summerlin Academy teacher of the year in 2009-2010 for Polk County schools.

Major (Hon) McCarty is a believer on the quote “We are all on the same team it is just a really big field.” Her teaching style is very interactive and she has high expectations of all cadets!
